Web Design Tips

Web Design Tips

Designing a good website is not just about making beautiful graphics and putting all the text together on a page, we have to create the greatest value to the visitors.

Keep it very simple

People like to read simple language. Keep your sentences short and very simple. Long and complicated language is unnecessary. Just like these 3 sentences above of what I want to say is simple and clear enough. Isn’t it ?

Avoid Pop Ups

Visitors hate pop ups except for an occasional page to get a free ebook or report.

Headline

A selling headling will be powerful enough to draw your target visitors into the body content.

Emphasize on the benefit

Do not just putting all the features of your products on the page, but also telling people what benefits will they have after using your products.

Repeat and repeat your points

People can only remember when you say and say it again. If you have some important points, it would be good to repeat it again and again in your website.

Dead Links

Spot check all the links in your sites to avoid dead links or simply make use of some software to check all the links of your sites.

Slow Pages

Choosing a good and reliable web hosting partner is critical. If it takes more than 5 seconds to view your site, all visitors gone and will not be back again.

Update your content

If your web site is showing the information 2 years ago, what are you telling your visitors about your company ? Website is a channel for you to communicate to the public. Some good Content Management System products may help you to update your website easily without the needs of the HTML knowledge.

Contact Information

Certainly, you have to put contact information of your company to your website. If you drawed your visitors’ attention to your website successfully, you need to let them know how to find you.

Avoid Simple Mistakes With Your Web Site

Avoid Simple Mistakes With Your Web Site

I think website is a basic marketing tools for all the company in the current world, but no website will be perfect. Even the best of the best often have room for improvement!

But many of the website, particular for small companies, make SIMPLE MISTAKE when they build their website, which at the end, it just hurt their business instead of helping them.

Here are some SIMPLE MISTAKE they usually have:

[Limited Content]

Usually, those small company will put limited content at their website, or just
leave their contact information and think that is probably good enough.

But nowadays, web visitors are looking for something more, more good quality content from your website in order to build the TRUST to your business.

By placing just limited contents, it can not help you to build the creditability for your business.

[Non-Update Content]
Keep update your web content. If you come out the first version of web content and leave it there for 6 months to few years, it is not good. It is particular both the web visitors and search engines already pay attention to your website, they will just ignore your website as they will not have a reason to come back.

It is also unlikely that visitors will recommend your site to their friends and colleagues, too.

[Non search engine friendly]
Make your website search engine friendly. Today, almost 80% web visitors will search the website by using the search engine. If those search engine can not visit your website, they just ignore it and move on to next site, and your information will completely ignore.

You can select some of the Content Management System (e.g. SourceCMS) to help you to manage your web content which are already Search Engine Friendly.

[Using too much Flash and Frames]
If your website still using the Flash Intro and use a lot of frames, please change it. These are older web techniques and it can not reflect well on your business, and most important, they are not perform well in the search engines.

Remember, search engine will one of the KEY to market your website.

Web Affiliation : Click-throughs = Make Money ?

Web Affiliation : Click-throughs = Make Money ?

[I Hate Spam Email]
Many people ask me why there has so many SPAM emails ? Are they effective ? Well, I have to say it is less useful than you can imagine. Most of the receiver hate SPAM email, and it will just bring bad image to them.

[Conversion]
Regarding to the web affiliate marketing, does it means the more you work on, the more moeny you can make ? It may be, but the key element is the “conversions”. It will happen when someone clicks on one of the links, and then buys something and you can receive a commission. That’s. You can send thousand of clicks, but if no one buys something, you don’t get paid.

[Maximize Your Conversions]
The key element is maximize your conversinos. In short, you need to get the right people to click your links, not the most people. Here are few tips for you:

[Put text links/banner on your website]
The first thing first. Put the text links / banner on your website. It is the most majority of web traffic comes through. Although it won’t necessarily give you targeted click-throughs, but you will still want to take advantage of the traffic your website receives.

[Placing a text link in your enewsletter]
It is nice to keep inform your customers what is going on for your business by using the enewsletter. If your website doesn’t has this function, you can easily integrate it at Source Contact Email Marketing Solution (www.sourcecontact.net). You may be surprised at how effective a simple text link inside your enewsletter can bring back the result to you.

[Prepare the Target Content]
Again, prepare the relevant information to your target customers. It doesn’t make sense to sell Web Design on the website that markets baby products. However, if you change the text link to “How to sell baby product online“, it will become 100% total different story. Strategically placing a link within a rich article can drive a lot of business, especially if that article is distributed via a good enewsletter and email marketing system.

Enjoy.

More than 1,000,000,000 SPAM (>95%) in comment / contact form detected

More than 1,000,000,000 SPAM (>95%) in comment / contact form detected. So terrible ?

As reported from Akismet statistic system, more than 1,000,000,000 SPAM message has been detected up to today. It’s really a terrible figure. It occupied 95% of the comments posted on different kind of contact or comment forms in the world.

Other fact is the growth of the SPAM is much faster than ham (non-spam) message. It’s around 97% SPAM detected today.

If there is no such spam detection system, can you imagine how much time will it be taken for people to process it every day ? Can you imagine how it does affect the productivity ?

We hate SPAM like many people. On the other hands, maybe it just created more opportunities for people to fight against the SPAM. But is it any other ways to stop it happening in the future ?

How to use Thunderbird to filter SPAM mail

Thunderbird is a good email reader application. It has the anti-spam learning facility each time you mark messages as spam, Thunderbird improves its filtering so you can spend more time reading the mail that matters.

Thunderbird will also use your mail provider’s spam filters to keep junk mail out of your box.

Here is the instructions how to do.

1. Download the thurderbird from here.

2. Install it and setup your own email account.

3. On the top menu, File –> New Folder.  Create a folder named “Spam” under your inbox.

4. On the top menu, Tools –> Junk Mail Controls.

5. On the Settings tab folder, check all the options

- Do not mark message as junk if sender is in  “Personal Address”
- Trust junk mail headers set by  “SpamAssassin”   (assume the web hosting provider supports this anti spam system)

- Move incoming messages determined to be junk mail to
* Other  and select the Spam folder under the mail account

- When I manually mark messages as junk:
* Move them to the “Junk” folder

- When displaying HTML messages marked as junk, sanitize the HTML

6. On the Adaptive Filder folder, check the option

- Enable Adaptive junk mail detection

7. Thunderbird may start to filter the spam message for you automatically when you restart it. If you found there are still some mails not filtered correctly, you have to check on the Junk mail control to let Thunderbird to learn.  On the other hands, if you found there are some non-spam mails moved to the Spam folder wrongly,  you need to uncheck the junk mail control on the mail and move them back to the Inbox.
